1 Market overview

1.1 Definition and scope of study

The cookware market encompasses all the mobile accessories needed to prepare a meal, including all cookware, but also small kitchen appliances. This study therefore excludes large kitchen appliances such as ovens and gas stoves.

These utensils are manufactured using different materials and metals, depending on their strength, resistance to fire and heat, and durability: copper (used especially in the 16th century), but also wrought iron, cast iron, aluminum, stainless steel, ceramics, etc.

The global cookware market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 4.5% over the next 7 years.By 2022, the global market will be worth $25.3 billion.sales of cookware and small electrical appliances on the French market represented nearly670 million in the same year.

In Spain, sales of small cooking appliances increased in volume terms in 2018, maintaining the positive trend already observed over the 2013-2018 period. Nevertheless, growth was slower than in 2017, due to slower growth in coffee machines. Overall, sales of small cooking appliances were boosted by the fact that consumers are increasingly adopting healthy habits and investing in appliances that help them prepare healthy meals at home.

In addition, manufacturers have accelerated customization by offering a wide range of products, with different types of appliances to meet specific consumer needs, driving up the average unit price. Over the forecast period, customization of small cooking appliances is expected to reach its peak, with value sales growing faster than volume sales.

However, volume performance is likely to be compromised by the already high penetration of small cooking appliances, and in particular hard pod coffee machines, which constitute the leading category in terms of volume and value.
