The tableware market includes a wide variety of products, including :
- Kitchen utensils (knives, cutlery, utensils, plates, glasses, etc.),
- Table decoration and table linen,
- Small electrical appliances.
Tableware production in Spain has suffered from the end of quotas from China and the opening up of the market that followed in the 2000s. Hardly was competition with China sustainable in the long run, especially considering that tableware products are mainly low-cost products. Consequently, the end of quotas eventually led to numerous bankruptcies. However, this phenomenon came to an end in 2015 thanks to a gradual upturn in Spanish sales, both in the domestic and export markets. The ceramics sector has demonstrated its competitiveness, as Spain has ranked constantly in the top 2 among exporting countries, whether they were first or second depending on the year, neck and neck with Italy. The Valencia region in particular stands out for its dynamism. Spanish companies operate in all three market segments: premium, intermediate, and volume, with widely varying margins: the average EBITDA of the first group is over 27%.
