Sneakers are urban shoes inspired by sports shoes. First used in hip-hop circles in the U.S. in the 80s, they gradually spread to the more mainstream market, appealing in particular to the younger public.

Worldwide, the sneaker market is dominated by the giants Nike, Adidas and Puma. The brand with the comma remains the undisputed king of sneakers, with its vintage products selling for record sums on second-hand websites.

In Spain, the appeal of sneakers is in line with the global market, and the American giants are well positioned in terms of both production and sales. In addition to these manufacturers, the two main sneaker sellers are Sivasdescalzo and Foot District. Beyond the primary market, a whole ecosystem of sneaker resale has developed in recent years. The most sought-after models are snapped up on specialized platforms such as StockX or Laced, in addition to general used-clothing platforms such as Wallapop and Vinted.

Finally, the market's growth is also due to the conversion of ready-to-wear manufacturers and distributors, who have positioned themselves with multiple creations. The five Spanish market leaders (Inditex, Primark, Tendam, H&M and Mango) offer new models every year, with online sales on the rise.
