Summary and extracts

1 Market summary

1.1 INTRODUCTION

The box spring is the surface on which the mattress is placed in a bedroom. The box spring market is a particular segment of the global bedding which is itself a sub-segment of the furnishings including all articles related to sleeping such as mattress , the box springs but also the bed linen (duvet, duvet cover, quilt, blanket, sheet, bed linen, pillowcase, etc.). The box spring market, like the bedding market, can be segmented by user type (age and profile) with box springs of different sizes and shapes according to age and family profiles.

Bedding products and more particularly box springs can be found in the furniture specialists but these products are also distributed to specialists in the bedding sector.

The bedding market is one of the only sub-segments of the furniture market that succeeds in do not not decrease very sharply . The global furniture market in France and Europe is indeed struggling to recover its former growth, but bedding retains considerable room for manoeuvre, especially since a box spring is an essential element of a bedroom. The frequent awareness on the need to sleep well seems to be bearing fruit since bedding elements (pillows, mattresses...) have become a priority in European budgets. To meet this demand, the investments in the mattresses and box springs sector in France have increased considerably in recent years, following the European trend.

Only a few of them share the domination of the sector, which is also very marked by the private label trend. The margins are challenged on a sector where innovation continues to create value . Brands such as Cauval, Dodo or Cofel enjoy an important reputation among consumers.

The sector is surfing on the health trend and on the regularly displayed need to sleep well, with increasingly sophisticated commercialized box springs. Thus, there are many innovations in this direction, such as slender headboards, drawer bases and all-in-one bases integrating bedside tables and other storage units. Finally, an important trend is the development of the electric adjustable head and footrests.
