The footwear market is a segment of the clothing market, which includes all types of footwear. These can be segmented by final user and by use/type. For the final user, the distinction is based on gender and age group, although the second parameter is more difficult to define. The Brazilian footwear production continues to be guided by plastic or rubber products. From the 944 million pairs produced, 49% were from this material, 28.8% were of synthetic laminate and only 17.7% were of leather.
