Founded in 1933, the Lactalis group is today a leader in the French dairy industry. Lactalis specializes in cheeses (34% of sales), drinking milk (25%), yoghurts and dairy desserts (13%), butter and cream (12%), dairy ingredients and milk powder (11%), and other products (5%). The Group has 250 production sites in 50 countries, including around 70 in France. It generates sales of 18.5 billion euros, 59% of which in Europe

The Group's portfolio includes strong brands such as Président, Lactel and La Laitière. The group's strategy is based on external growth, with the acquisition of a stake in Italy's Parmalat in 2011 and the purchase of dairy subsidiary Brasil Foods in 2014. The company also owns 24% of Bel Dairies, which produces La vache qui rit, Boursin, Babybel and Kiri.
