Tour operator TUI Group announced in May 2016 its intention to sell its Travelopia subsidiary, which includes the boat rental activities of the Sunsail, Le Boat and The Moorings companies. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P, (KKR), has acquired Travelopia for €381 million.
Sunsail offers a wide choice of sailing cruises with over 800 yachts departing from 30 bases around the world. In addition to skippered and bareboat cruises, the company also offers regattas and theme cruises. The company has its own sailing school, offering various qualifications: beginners' course, International Certificate of Competence (ICC), day skipper certificate issued by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), final skipper exam.today, bareboat charter generates two-thirds of the company's sales.
