France Galop is a non-profit association that organizes and controls the French gallop racing industry. The association co-owns PMU, Europe's leading horse betting operator, with Trot. It is PMU, through the levies it collects on horse betting, which provides the association's budget.
Around 200 million of this budget is paid out in the form of incentives to breeders, owners, trainers and jockeys. The association has 372 employees and over 10,000 members: 5,772 gallop horse owners, 3,750 breeders, 475 gallop horse trainers and 542 jockeys and apprentices.
France Galop organizes 28 Group 1 flat races each year, representing almost a third of all such events in Europe, and 9 Group 1 jump races. Group 1 races are the most prestigious in the world. In addition, France Galop supervises 5,978 races a year
