Founded in 2001, Ankama first created the browser-based multiplayer game Dofus in 2003, followed by Wakfu in 2007

Ankama bought Wizcorp in 2014 to improve the interface of its games. Ankama is a medium-sized company in the French mobile game market.

Ankama successfully developed a studio in Quebec in 2013, but in 2014 its studio in Japan was dissolved.

Ankama announced in 2018 that it was working on a new game: Dofus Donjons.

The company, through its subsidiaries Ankama Editions and Ankama Animation, also manages the rights to manga, series and comics related to Dofus and Wakfu.
