Meat substitutes: French start-up Umiami raises €32.5 million 03/10/2023

Umiami has raised €32.5 million for factory development and expansion in Europe and the United States.
Umiami was launched in 2020 by Tristan Maurel and Martin Habfast.
They bought the former Knorr site in Duppigheim (Bas-Rhin) at the end of 2022.
Planned production capacity is 7,500 tonnes a year.
They plan to employ up to 200 people.
An office will be opened in Chicago, USA.
Umiami's main product is a soy protein-based substitute for chicken fillet.
Investors in the latest round include Bpifrance, Astanor Ventures, Redalpine, Newfund and VERSO Capital.
Since its creation, Umiami has secured around €100 million in financing (investments, loans and subsidies).

The start-up, capable of reproducing meat and fish fillets, has just inaugurated its 1,000 m2 industrial R&D center in Villebon-sur-Yvette.
Main customers: specialty brands, private labels and foodservice.
Production capacity: 100 t/year.
Following a €26.5 M fund-raising round, they have set their sights on moving up a gear and building a factory.
