Silec Cable was founded in 1932 by Alfred Dhome, and expanded its cable manufacturing activities in the 1980s. In 2005, it was acquired by General Cable, an American group.

Since 2018, it has been controlled by Prysmian, following the latter's takeover of General Cable. This power cable plant produces around 5 million kilometers of fiber optic cable a year on a total surface area of 43 hectares.

In addition to fiber optic cables, the company also designs electrical cables, particularly for very high voltage cables used in nuclear power plants.
