Thames Water is a British water supply and treatment company established in 1989. Thames Water is the 3 e the largest water company in the world, behind the two French giants Veolia and Suez. In 2001, the company joined the German RWE group, which was already operating in the sector in Germany and Eastern Europe.
The company treats nearly 4.4 billion litres of wastewater per day and serves nearly 15 million customers in the UK, or 27% of the population, concentrated in the London area and along the Thames River. It is the leading distributor and caterer of wastewater in the country.
The company has been expanding internationally since 1995 and even more so since the takeover by RWE, but concentrates its largest contracts in the UK, most recently winning the Thames Tideway Tunnel contract, a €4.2 billion project and the largest waterworks project in the UK, to build a 25-kilometre tunnel to prevent the Thames River from overflowing, treating part of the river's water.
