Red Star: 100 years of glory and decline 04/08/2023

  • Red Star FC, the Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine soccer club, was founded in Paris in 1897.
  • It last won the Coupe de France in 1942.
  • The club won 5 French Cups between 1921 and 1942.
  • At its first match in Saint-Ouen in 1909, the club managed to attract 1,000 spectators.
  • In 1978, after filing for bankruptcy, the club had to return to the regional championship (Division d'Honneur). It returned to the second division in 1982, but regained regional status in 2003.
  • In 2019-2020, the club returned to Ligue 2 and National.
  • In 2002, Red Star filed for bankruptcy again and returned to the 6th division.
  • In 2015, the club was forced into exile in Beauvais when it returned to Ligue 2.
  • Financial and sporting problems prompted the chairman to sell Red Star FC to the American investment fund 777 Partners in 2021.
