New World Truffieres specializes in truffle cultivation and the controlled inoculation of oak and hazelnut plants with a range of truffle species.
The company was founded by Charles Lefevre, who also founded the Oregon Truffle Festival in 2006. It is dedicated to the inoculation of truffle seeds (Tuber melanosporum) onto oak and hazelnut trees, in order to provide harvesters or farmers' orchards with trees that will produce truffles. This technique had been used in Europe for decades, and New World Truffieres was one of the first companies to import it to the United States.
Truffles appear several years after planting, and yields can vary considerably from one orchard to another, with annual production ranging from 25 to 150 pounds per acre.
The company is dedicated to research and development in order to find new hosts and truffle species for cultivation.
