The company was founded in the 1960s when Guy Ligier, a French motorcycling champion and Formula 1 driver, began to design and produce his own sports car, intended for both the track and the road. In the 1980s Guy Ligier diversified his business toward the production of tractor cabs, then converted to light quadricycles with his first LIGIER JS 4.
