- The mining concession for La Française de l'Energie covers an area of 191 km².
- Authorization to mine coal seam gas in this area has been granted until 2040.
- The coal seam gas is trapped between 1000 and 1500 meters underground.
- The decision in favor of La Française de l'Energie was taken by the Strasbourg Administrative Court on July 25, 2023.
- Founded in 2007, La Française de l'Energie had 34 employees and sales of 39.2 million euros in 2023.
- The company has certified 2.1 billion cubic meters of gas reserves in the concession area.
- This represents just under 5% of France's annual gas consumption.
- The French Ministry of Ecological Transition has appealed this decision.
- The appeal could take a year to process.
- In March 2023, the company also applied for an exclusive permit to explore for natural hydrogen reserves in the Lorraine coal basin.
