Service stations: BP exits the French market, Esso picks up the slack 08/06/2023

  • BP owned nearly 300 French service stations operated by Euro Garages.
  • At least 200 stations will be transferred to Esso (ExxonMobil), increasing its market share from 4% to 8%.
  • Esso should have a network of around 800 stations, compared with 550 at present.
  • Of Esso's 550 outlets in France, around 400 are "Esso Express".
  • TotalEnergies has decided to downsize in Europe, and is in exclusive negotiations to sell its entire network in Germany (1,198 stations) and the Netherlands (392) to the Quebec-based retail group Couche-Tard.
