Founded in 1948, Bourbon initially specialized in sugar cane, then diversified in the early 1990s (fishing, mass distribution, dairy products). It refocused on its maritime activities in 2000. Today, it specialises in offshore marine services for oil and gas. It has a fleet of 483 vessels and operates in 47 countries. Bourbon mobility, one of its 3 subsidiaries, is dedicated to the transport of passengers and light goods at high speed for the group's clients. The capacity is 10,000 passengers per day.

Following the fall in oil prices, the company was taken over by its creditors to avoid a bankruptcy in 2018
